E3, theaftermath…

I thought I would let the dust settle before I wrote down my thoughts on this years E3, in short it’s another fantastic year for gamers! The big three all had big announcements to make and my thoughts about each company are below…

Microsoft @ E3

They opened with The Beatles Rock Band and actually had Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr there. I am really excited about this game, firstly because I am a huge Beatles fan and secondly I really want to get my teeth in to a rhythm game after the disappointing Guitar Hero 3. The trailer looks awesome I just hope the Mrs can put up with my singing!

I suppose there were two surprises in Left for Dead 2 and Crackdown 2, both very successful games, I was more surprised by Crackdown 2 but very excited when the trailer played, L4D will be much the same as before, which isn’t a bad thing.

Splinter Cell Conviction just looks awesome and so Does Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, I look forward to seeing what the equivalent of the Mile High Club achievement will be.

The whole Social Integration looks like a nice idea and as for Project Natal; it’s starting to grow on me.

I now have another list of games that will keep me entertained over the winter…

  • The Beatles Rock Band
  • CoD MW2
  • Splinter Cell – Conviction
  • Crackdown 2
  • Left 4 Dead 2

Sony @ E3

As I only own a PSP (though I am sure I will get a PS3 in the future) I wasn’t really too fussed as to what Sony had to say, I already knew about Little Big Planet for the PSP but wasn’t sure what else would be happening. Gran Turismo was announced and that should be really good, hopefully Metal Gear and Resident Evil will be good too.

The PSP Go was a good announcement, though £200 is a lot, you can practically get an xBox elite for that. Kotaku gave their hands on impressions on their site.

I was surprised to see there was no PS3 price cut; I’m guessing that will happen at Christmas now.

I won’t comment on the games as I haven’t played any PS3 games, though I like the look for the Uncharted series…

Nintendo @ E3

After last years car crash of a presentation things couldn’t have been any worse. This year things were better and they has some interesting announcements.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 should be really cool, I got to play the first for a while and really enjoyed it, the soundtrack was brilliant, Super Mario Bros. Wii will be fun to play too, very old school…

I know that Mrs M is most excited about Kingdom Hearts for the DS, she put so many hours into 1 & 2 on the PS2, so that might be a sneaky Christmas present.

It’s easier for me to talk about Microsoft since I know much more about the xBox, but I thought it would be interesting to talk about what the other companies are doing.

What did you think of the conferences? What are you most excited about?

I know what you mean about Beatles Rock Band, I also am certainly looking forward to it and not just for the music! I can’t wait to get my hands on some of the awesome looking instruments.

If only I had room for all the instruments! Will settle for a guitar for now and will see on the future about more…

It certainly is a problem fitting in all the kit. Especially now that the games that first released drum kits (Rock Band and GHWT) are bringing out even more sequels with different instruments.

I must say, Rock Band seem to be the worst, they brought out their kit in Rock Band 1, then an improved kit in Rock Band 2, then they are now bringing out a third one in The Beatles: Rock Band… Do they think we all live in huge houses with enough space for a number of different drum kits?
