A New Bus For London

This looks like it could e fun…

Yesterday Boris was at the London Transport Museum (which I must go to!) to launch the contest, with the winner getting £25,000.

The competition has two elements: ‘Imagine‘, which is open to anyone and calls for a ‘feature or overall look’ of the new bus; and ‘Design‘, which is aimed at professional companies and technicians who can help to realise the former category.

You’ve got until the 19th September to enter, so get your thinking caps on. More details here.

My Lunchtime walk….

Walk
St. Paul’s > Fleet Street > Covent Garden > TCR

Since the weather has been better I decided to go out and see a bit of London during my lunch. I hadn’t been to St. Paul’s in ages so thought it would nice to go down there, two stops on the central line and I was in the city of London, sweet!

Picture 006 I got some interesting pictures including this one. Its nothing special but i had to crouch right down to get it. Once I had taken it there were three or four people behind me waiting to copy me, tourists! I then headed down to fleet street where there are some great pubs and some interesting street names too, but more on that another time.

I have decided on a new project which I will start work on when I return from Barcelona.

VIP Day

Saturday was a day for VIP’s (Very Important Pedestrians). Oxofrd and Regent Streets were both closed to the traffic for the day to allow crowds of shoppers to snap up Christmas goodies like there’s no tomorrow.Reindeer

The roads were not only full of shoppers, there were lots of little events going on up and down the street. At Nike Town for example two players from the Arsenal Ladies team were there to answer questions and take part in a penalty shoot out, whilst Arsenal Hammered Tottenham in the background (shame that). Hamleys was packed out, to the point were it looked like they had bouncers letting people in and out. The highlight was Jade Goody signing boxes of her new perfume (that was a joke).
It was announced that at some time in the future Oxford Street would become pedestrianised permanently which would only be a good thing.

Free Paper War

It’s two weeks now since the Free Paper war in London Started, on one hand you have Standard Lite, and on the other you have thelondonpaper but which is better?

Standard Lite

Let’s face it this one is a bit trashy, I wasn’t keen on it especially and reading it for longer just confirmed my feelings, its not very good really and to be honest since I picked up the first edition I haven’t bothered again..

The Website is just as bad and will do my best to avoid it, in fact I have never liked that site!

thelondonpaper

This is the better out of the two its presented nicely and the website compliments the paper well. I can actually read this paper through without getting too bored, It lasts me my train journey home and that’s all that really matters with these papers. Considering the Evening Standard has gone up to 50p now as well anything you can get for free is a good thing!

Bank Holiday Blues

Police So as normal after a long weekend off its back to the place you love the most… work. A really nice weekend saw A & I do lots of cool things including a trip down the river on a boat, seeing London in a real different way. It was typical Bank Holiday weather rain one minute, really sunny the next but we seemed to get away with all weekend so we have to happy with that!

We started off in Greenwhich having a look around the market and then heading off to the Royal Observatory which was really cool, except it was so busy, but thats the Summer Holidays for you :)
We visited the Cutty Sark and went for drink and then made a quick descision to jump on a boat and head to Covent Garden, it took about an hour and we had a really good time, mainly laughing at the Cockney announcer telling us not to forget our ‘bits and bobs’. Even though I Grew up in Bermondsey it was really weird going past it on a boat as I failed to recognise where we were until I saw Tower Bridge!

We headed in to Covent Garden for a wicked curry and then it was back to ours to be well and truly whooped on the new Buzz! game…

I refuse to mention anything about the football this weekend and will pretend it never happened!

London RemembersToday is the anniversary of the 7th July bombs, there will be a national two minute silence at noon to remember the 52 people who were killed. There is also a memorial service at Queen Mary’s Gardens in Regent’s Park from 6pm and Floral tributes can be left from 8am. Also tributes will be placed by relatives and friends of the dead at the five sites of the bombings.

London Was really good at getting back to normal and the tube has certainly returned to its old ways, but if you can, just take a moment to think of the families affect by this terrible event.
